Special Olympics is an international organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disability, a cognitive disability to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition.

Special Olympics began in 1968 when Eunice Kennedy Shriver organized the First International Special Olympics Games at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. The ides first began when intellectual disability by Joseph P Kennedy (Jr.) Special Olympics currently serve more than one million persons in more than 203 programs in more than 203 countries.

Special Olympics-Bharat

Special Olympics Bharat, A National Sports Program, having 34 State Units for promoting sports and games among people with intellectual disabilities was established in the Year – 2001. Its Head office is located at New Delhi having networking with all state of the country.

Special Olympics Bharat – Gujarat Chapter was started the Year 2000 after tremendous interest and participation exhibited by these special athletes. During the span of twelve years the Gujarat Chapter has organized Special Olympics almost in each year and helped the special athletes in fighting against isolation and neglect caused them either by birth or through malnutrition or poverty. According to the mission Special Olympics Gujarat Chapter organizes various sport activities in all Districts of the State.

Accordingly "Kalrav" has, till date, organized Seven District Level competetions successfully and its students have exibited excellent skills and performance in achieving national prizes. Under the able leadership of Mrs. Neela Modi, Founder Trustee who is aso acting as Growth & Development Manager of the Bharuch District, this year - 2013 - the strudents of "Kalrav" have fetched 8 Gold medals, 1 silver and 2 Bronze medals in the State Level competetion organized at Sadra, Dist. Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

My Humble appeal

“The first thing you need to do is to train yourself not to use the phrase “Mentally retarded”. Use the term “People with intellectual disability”. Put the “People” First. That will be the best thing you can start doing because using such a language will enhance my dignity as a person and will make me feel respected as a human being.
